Most DIY homeowners finish a 50m (single-storey, standard home) install in one full weekend. Larger or multi-storey homes take longer. The limiting factor is ladder time, not complexity.
The aluminum track is white and tucks under the roofline against your soffit or fascia. From the street, when the lights are off, most people don’t notice it’s there. The gemstone-style lenses are 30mm diameter — small enough to disappear at normal viewing distance.
Yes. DuraGem is rated IP67 — fully protected against dust and rated to handle rain, snow, and standing water. Tested for temperatures from -20°C to 60°C. Built for West Coast weather.
The system runs on 12-volt DC through a UL-listed Meanwell power supply. The power supply itself plugs into a standard exterior outlet. If you don’t already have an exterior outlet near where the controller will sit, you may need an electrician to add one — that’s not covered in the DIY kit. Professional installation includes coordinating any electrical work needed.
A single DuraGem controller can drive up to 2048 pixels — roughly 400 metres of linear track. For most residential homes, one controller handles the whole house. Signal boosters (included free with orders over 100m) extend the range further.
Individual LED chains can be swapped out without replacing the whole system. Warranty covers manufacturing defects for 2 years. Replacement parts available through the Surrey showroom.
DuraGem is permanent in the sense that it’s installed to stay year-round, not seasonally. It can be removed if you sell, but it’s a value-add for most buyers and many homeowners leave it. If you do take it with you, the tracks and controller can be re-installed on your next home.
The Surplife platform (developed by Zengge, a long-established Shenzhen smart lighting company) is actively maintained with regular updates. Like all smart home apps, occasional connectivity issues can occur — usually resolved by restarting your WiFi router or re-pairing the controller. Our support team handles app troubleshooting for customers.
No. LEDs are extremely efficient. Running a full house in standard architectural warm-white mode typically uses 30–50 watts — roughly the same as a single old-style incandescent bulb. Full-colour Christmas mode at maximum brightness uses more, but still far less than a traditional incandescent Christmas light display.
Yes. Additional track segments are sold individually at $25 each. Extend your system any time. If you go above what your original controller can handle (2048 pixels / ~400m), you can add a second controller and link them in the app.
2-year manufacturer warranty on all DuraGem products, honoured through Legacy’s Surrey showroom. Professional installations include an additional workmanship warranty covered by the installing crew.
